Abstract
The performance demands of new systems are forcing new approaches to solving complex power management problems. Solutions will require a system approach where portions of the power management circuitry will exist in the form of traditional separate chips and portions will be literally embedded with the system chips themselves. This paper explores two such high performance systems, multi-GHz microprocessors and 3G cell phones. The power management needs of such systems and some innovative approaches to achieving the required performance are described
