Abstract :
The new material GdxY(1-x)Ca4O(BO 3)3 (GdYCOB) exhibits excellent optical (SHG) characteristics, and their single crystals can be grown with CZ technique at a low cost. Hence, their piezoelectric properties are also very interesting, however, few studies on the piezoelectricity and SAW properties have been reported. In this study, SAW properties of GdYCOB are first presented. In order to investigate the properties IDTs were fabricated on YCa4O(BO3)3(x=0) and GdCa 4O(BO3)3 (x=1) crystals, and frequency response of radiation admittance and filter properties were measured. The X, Y and Z-cut crystals of YCOB were evaluated, revealing that the SAW velocity measured ranged from 2500 to 4300 m/s, and the high coupling factor (k2=0.5% at Z-axis propagation) and relatively low temperature coefficient of delay (TCD=50 ppm/K) were found at the X-cut sample. The higher coupling factor (k2~1.0%) was measured on GdCOB crystal. It is expected that the SAW properties comparable to those of LiTaO3 can be obtained in GdYCOB
