Abstract
A solution to the optimal regulation problem when only a partial state, or a measurement, is available for feedback is presented. The solution procedure is based upon the algebra of polynomials. A scalar external polynomial model of the plant is considered. The design procedure involves the solution of linear polynomial equations whose coefficients are obtained by spectral factorization.
