Abstract :
A permanent magnet-inductor hybrid exciting synchronous generator (PM-IHESG) is a special machine operating under both dc-biased magnetics and sinusoidal inductions. The finite element method (FEM) is applied to investigate the iron loss of the PM-IHESG. The influence of the size and types of load on the iron loss of the PM-IHESG is analyzed. The calculation method of the iron loss under dc-biased magnetic induction is discussed. The experiment for testing the material characteristic is performed. The curves of the iron loss of the steel material under dc-biased magnetic induction are obtained. The differences between dc-biased magnetic induction and sinusoidal induction are discovered. The design principle to decrease the total iron loss of the PM-IHESG is presented. The experimental results validate the correctness of the computation and analysis. A few important conclusions are deduced from the FEM calculation and experiments.
