Abstract :
A code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system in conjunction with serial concatenation of FEC codes is considered. Iterative decoding strategies are used at the receiver. The component decoders are functionally described by variance transfer (VTR) charts. Pinch-off SNRs, where the iterative decoding starts to function, are precisely predicted by this approach. Designs of the multiuser detection (MUD) method and the component FEC codes have been carried out and system performance to within about 1 dB of the Shannon capacity of the multiple-access channel is demonstrated.
