Abstract :
The magneto-dielectric effect and magneto-optical effect (absorption coefficient in infrared range) were studied for mineral oil based magnetic fluids with magnetite particles in the volume concentration range from /spl phi/=0.0125 to /spl phi/=0.2. The anisotropy parameter, g, defined as a ratio of change of dielectric constant /spl Delta/c/sub /spl par//(H) (absorption coefficient /spl Delta/A/sub /spl par//(H)) for E/spl I.oarr//spl par/H/spl I.oarr/ with respect to zero magnetic field dielectric constant and change of dielectric constant /spl Delta//spl epsiv//sub /spl perp// (H) for E/spl I.oarr//spl perp/H/spl I.oarr/ (/spl Delta/A/sub /spl perp// (H)) has been calculated from the experimental data for both effects. The values of g nearly equal 2 has been found in agreement with theoretical predictions.
