Abstract :
Fibre optics is a very quickly growing subject: until a few years ago there were no books in the area and it was necessary to go back to the original papers. More recently there have appeared a large number of texts ranging from those suitable for those who have no previous knowledge of optics, up to those written for researchers in the area. This particular book contains a collection of papers from a short course in ´Recent advances in fibre optics´ held at the University of Rhode Island in 1978, together with some papers presented at a conference on the ´Physics of fibre optics´ which was held immediately afterwards.
