Abstract :
A large signal model of electroabsorption modulator (EAM) is presented in this paper. The EAM model can be used to predict the EAM AC insertion loss and extinction ratio which agree very well with the experiments. The EAM model has been further applied for the EAM evaluation and parameters setting optimization for 40 Gb/s transmitter module design. An EAM FOM is proposed and two EAM system performance parameters are presented with example systems.
