Abstract
This paper concerns the issue of motion compensated interpolation for frame rate up-conversion. For each pair of temporally adjacent frames, both forward and backward motion estimation is conducted with a correlation constraint imposed upon block-based motion vectors. The fact that spatially adjacent pixels in a picture exhibit high correlation is exploited for adaptive refinement. It takes advantage of the complementary frames that are compensated using forward and backward motion estimates. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of the proposed technique.
