  • Abstract
Dual-mode transport systems can be regarded as a hybrid of today´s road transport system, some elements of the current crop of ITS technologies and personal rapid transit (PRT) systems. In this paper we compare the personal transport characteristics of today´s system with an example-the simple platoon advancement (SPA) model-of future ITS deployment, and with PRT systems. Then we present dual-mode systems-for example the rapid urban flexible (RUF) system-as possessing characteristics of the above three systems.
