  • Abstract
A new method for the rehabilitation by playing virtual tennis is proposed. As the first step, we investigate whether the tennis swings are applicable for the range of joint motion exercise and the muscle strengthening exercise in this paper. For the evaluation of the range of joint motion exercise, we measure the motion range of the shoulder joints in various tennis swings. We measure EMG signals in various swings in terms of the swing velocity, the swing pattern, and the load exerted on the player´s wrist in. order to examine applicability of the tennis swing to the muscle strengthening exercise. The resultant muscle activation will be compared with the usual rehabilitation exercise. From experimental results, we will show the tennis can be applicable to the rehabilitation training.
