Abstract
This paper describes a method for improving 2D motion detection accuracy based on a virtual sensor formed by two regions, developed for road traffic analysis using the AEID motion detection method. The goal was to improve the performance of the sensor of lines that used the AEID method and which had lack of precision using low cost PAL video equipment at normal frame rate (25Hz). Using a sensor with two regions instead of two lines, it was possible to achieve higher precision, without the need of a higher frame rate. This is due to the use of a higher spatial precision to complement the lack of time precision. This method has been integrated in a System for Analysis of Conflicts (SAC) developed for traffic analysis.
