Study of convergence rate of Newton´s procedure within harmonic balance

Harmonic balance is studied. The traditional procedure, which involves the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), is compared to the boundary values approach. Presenting the problem using a simple expression, it is proved that both approaches have identical convergence. It is also suggested that DFT is numerically more expensive.
