Abstract :
Wireless local area networks have recently gained much interest. At present two solutions are deemed to be candidates for wireless Ethernet, namely the IEEE 802.11 standard, and the HIgh-PErformance Radio LAN (HIPERLAN/1) solution proposed by ETSI. Here, a modified access algorithm for HIPERLAN is proposed, which significantly shortens the contention phase under heavy load conditions, thus increasing the overall network throughput.
