  • Abstract
    In this work we summarizes a comprehensive study of a drug delivery system based on bioerodible polyanhydrides. The polymer system is composed of the copolymer poly[1,6-bis(p-carboxy phenoxy)hexane-cosebacic anhydride] (poly(CPH-SA)). This system has been characterized by its microstructure, erosion behavior, and monomer/drug release kinetics. It is shown that drugs thermodynamically partition into the micro-phases of heterogeneous copolymers. A predictive model has been developed which describes the drug and monomer release kinetics and comparisons to in vitro release studies provide important insights into the mechanism of release.
