Abstract
Course selection is one of the most important processes for students each academic period. This process is sometimes negatively affected by factors like counselors\´ workload and students lack of knowledge about course requirements and the curriculum. In this work, the authors constructed a platform to develop electronic academic counselors. The platform is curriculum independent and does not require programming skills, allowing counselors and faculty to develop the electronic counselors. Tests among potential users show that the application reduces the time required to assist each student, increasing the number of students they can help. Students may also use the application by themselves as a "virtual" counselor.
