Abstract :
We have demonstrated the cascaded operation of NOLM wavelength converters made of dispersion shifted fibre (DSF) through realistic simulation. No degradation of the signals is observed even after > 5 cascaded devices due to the regeneration functionality of the NOLM-WC. When employed in high bit rate transmission systems, the NOLM-WCs improves the signal quality in addition to wavelength conversion operation enabling long transmission distances without any opto-electronic conversions.
