Abstract :
We present a platform-independent model-level interface for database applications. This is an XML-based meta-protocol which, when combined with application-specific metadata, produces a protocol that supports complete interaction with a database. Specification of the metadata at the data modeling level eliminates any dependence on the nature of the underlying database platform. This paper focuses on the database query and response elements of the protocol.
