Abstract :
Phase shifter based on integrated paraelectric film has advantages in high operation speed, low cost and size, and a possibility to use in high frequency MMIC. The design of such a phase shifter requires CAD simulation. A coplanar line has been chosen after comparing of various transmission lines used in the MMIC. Finite element method is used for estimation of phase shifter characteristics: matching with the MMIC system, electromagnetic field distribution in the multi-layered structure, effective dielectric constant, phase shifter wave impedance, controlling phase shift and insertion loss. Clear recommendations were obtained for the best collocation of a paraelectric film and metallic lines depending on applied materials parameters and geometry.
