Abstract :
SHOP to BOX (or shop2box concept) is a grocery delivery chain which is aimed at increasing service level. This concept releases the customer from time consuming visits in the store because ordered items are delivered to a box which is located near to the customer. The major difference between the new shop2box concept and conventional home delivery is the fact that the delivery man and customer need not meet each other. It helps all involved parties to optimize their tasks independently. The main idea might sound simple, but in the real implementation several different areas must be covered. Money is involved in every deal and every event must be evidently traceable. On the other hand, smooth and seamless delivery operations are essential in order to stay competitive. This highlights the necessity of identification. All possible tasks should be done without any special efforts with high reliability utilising feasible technology and at low cost. The aim of the paper is to present an application oriented overview of the shop2box concept and its special requirements concerning identification. Business logic is presented. Also, available radio frequency identification technologies and their application, advantages and disadvantages are presented and discussed. In addition, a potential system is proposed and selection criteria are discussed.
