Abstract
Multicasting allows for a single source to send copies of a message to multiple destinations that are required to receive it. This type of transmission is more efficient than requiring the source to send individual copies of the message to the required destinations, i.e. unicast, or broadcasting the message to all nodes on the network. Another aspect of a great demand is quality of service (QoS) guarantee, which is dependent on the routing protocols used. To this end, this paper investigates the necessity of integrating multicasting routing and the QoS routing in order to obtain reliable and cost efficient multicasting over IPv6 networks. A simulation study is then carried out to investigate the performance of the integrated approach.
