Abstract
The combined idle channel assignment (ICA) and fixed channel assignment (FCA) schemes are proposed and applied for the integrated dual-mode networks. The network integrates the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) modes of Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UNITS) Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA) in a given cell, which includes the high traffic load region and the blocked region. The effect of network timeout period-on the traffic performance of the integrated dual-mode network is also investigated. The simulated results demonstrate that the blocking as well as handoff failure probabilities of the integrated dual-mode network can be reduced significantly when the combined ICA and FCA schemes replace the FCA scheme.. The integrated dual-mode network using the combined ICA and FCA schemes also increases the carried traffic of 1.18 Erlangs over the FCA scheme. The traffic performance of the integrated dual-mode network is improved by decreasing the maximum timeout probability, i.e., increasing the network timeout period.
