Abstract
A combined power and rate adaptation in integrated service CDMA communications is considered. The data rate and transmission power is adapted relative to channel variations. For voice services, which require a constant bit rate, we use power adaptation and for data services, rate adaptation is used since data services can tolerate some delay. The analysis results show that this adaptation scheme has a power gain, also a capacity gain, over conventional power adaptation, while maintaining the same average data rates and BER requirements.
