Abstract :
A very low bit-rate audio coding algorithm suitable for wireless mobile communications is presented. The codec is based on a sinusoidal model, with modifications to reduce bit-rate and improve reconstructed audio quality. The improvements include signal adaptive analysis length, psychoacoustic model used in both matching pursuits algorithm and parameter quantization, and phaseless frequency domain audio reconstruction. At general bit-rate of 0.5 bit per sample, AM broadcasting audio quality is achieved.
