Abstract :
We present an algorithm known as REDBA (RED with Block in Advance) by adding a block gate in front of conventional RED module in a router. REDBA surveys packet-drop history in RED to find non-TCP-friendly flows, and drops the arriving packets from these flows rather than deals with them using RED algorithm. The ability of REDBA algorithm to protect the bandwidth of TCP flows in various circumstances is validated by simulations based on ns2 simulator. Due to its function to punish high-speed flows without end-to-end congestion control mechanism, REDBA is able to provide incentives for promoting this mechanism and be propitious to avoid congestion collapse.
