Abstract
Automation serves as a pulling force in introducing to manufacturing industry more advanced ideas and techniques in quality engineering. Contrary to a commonly held belief, the very characteristics of automated manufacturing demand an even higher level of application of quality control methodologies, not only in-process statistical control and final inspection of products but, more actively, total quality control.
