Abstract :
The electrostatic discharge (ESD) effect in recording heads in the process of deshunting is studied using human body model (HBM). The sequence of deshunting is thought to cause the damage of a gap between the GMR head sensor and the bottom shield. It is found from the simulation, based on real values, that a typical deshunting sequence as W- to R- can destroy the gap unless a completed protection is used. In a case of all four leads are deshunted, the less damage can be observed.
