Abstract :
The V(x) ultrasonic material characterization system was developed for the measurement of the temperature coefficient of the LSAW velocity. To obtain the temperature coefficient, the leaky wave velocity is measured as a function of the temperature of the coupling liquid and a specimen. By testing the system with the fused quartz specimen, the error of the temperature coefficient measurement was estimated to be 0.03 m (s°C)-1. The proposed technique was used for the characterization of the thermal treatment of carbon steel samples.
