Abstract
The images of objects in total darkness can be captured using a relatively low cost camcorder with the NightShot® function. However, the resulting images exhibit non-uniformity due to irregular illumination. We investigate the characteristics of and propose an image formation model for near-infrared images. A homomorphic processing technique built upon the image model is then developed to reduce the artifact of the captured images. We discuss how the parameters of the homomorphic filter should be selected and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed image processing technique with experimental results.
