Abstract
A relative bandwidth service differentiation scheme is proposed for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). The service profile for a traffic session is defined as a relative target rate, which is a fraction of the effective link capacity of nodes. To calculate the effective link capacity of nodes in a randomly moving topology MANET, two methods are presented: one is parameter based and the other is measurement based calculations work effectively to estimate the effective link capacity of nodes and the relative service differentiation is consistent. Furthermore, the differentiation is more consistent when nodes use the measurement based calculation of link capacity because it is more accurate.
