Abstract
This paper presents a circuit model of a four-dimensional (4D) spiking neuron. The circuit is piecewise linear and the dynamics can be analyzed by exact piecewise solutions. Using a 2D return map, we show that the neuron can exhibit rich interesting phenomena including hyperchaos. Basic classification of typical phenomena is also given. Simple implementation circuits are presented and typical phenomena can be verified in the laboratory.
