  • Abstract
    The FePt-C granular films for HAMR application have been developed by using the in-line sputter system. The microstructure development of the FePt-C granular films with different C contents was investigated. It was found that both the grain shape and the grain aspect ratio varied with increasing C content. The desired microstructure of FePt based granular film with well-isolated columnar grains was obtained for FePt granular film with 60 vol.% C doping. The mean grain size is nm and the grain aspect ratio is larger than 1. The developed FePt-C granular film with well-isolated FePt grains has the potential to be used as the recording media for HAMR application.
