Abstract
The paper develops a state variable approach to model ideal switching in inconsistent initial conditions circuits. The use of ideal circuit elements and ideal switching simplifies the analysis of switched networks, but often leads to circuits with excess storage elements and with inconsistent initial conditions. In such cases, a joint change in the state of a set of switches brings the circuit in different states, for the same state before the switching, depending of the ordering of the individual events that compose the multiple switching, even when the total duration of the switching vanishes.
