Abstract :
Routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) problem is one of the most important issues in wavelength-routed WDM optical networks. The asynchronous criticality avoidance (ACA) protocol is a fully-distributed routing and signaling protocol for multifiber wavelength-routed WDM optical networks. This paper discusses the ACA protocol and focuses on its implementation issues. We propose a new OSPF-based solution to implement the ACA protocol by applying OSPF signaling mechanism into the implementation of the ACA protocol to improve the network performance and reduce the traffic overhead significantly.
