  • Abstract
The new approach using genetic algorithms is applied for the optimization of the pole shape of the synchronous generators. In the design optimization process there are always two fundamental functional bodies: the analysis tool and the search algorithm. They continuously interact, as for every new set of design parameters that the search algorithm suggests. The analysis tool solves the governing equations and determines the value of a new point in the search space. In this present work, the genetic algorithm performs the search operation and the finite element method carries out the analysis. The results show that the optimal design of hydro-generator with lower losses and optimum pole geometry can be found quickly after a few generations.
