Abstract
This paper discusses about a general software architecture suitable for the design of diagnostic systems based on logical reasoning. This type of architecture should be able to support different kinds of consistency tests and different kinds of triggering strategies. Different steps, such as data acquisition from a physical system, batch or online consistency tests, diagnostic reasoning and management of consistency tests have been isolated. Software dedicated to the diagnosis of a system of two cascading water tanks is also presented as an illustration.
