Abstract
An adaptive hexagon search(AHS) algorithm is proposed in this paper to perform block motion estimation in video coding. The proposed AHS finds the motion vector with different hexagon search patterns during searching procedure, and the choice of search pattern depended mainly on the position on search pattern where the minimum evaluation value has occurred in the previous search step. The using of adaptively changing search pattern may make it possible to investigate more widely, as a result, it can be obtained more robust performance. Experimental results showed the most competitive performance of proposed AHS algorithm compared with other popular fast algorithms.
