Abstract :
We demonstrate a 40-Gbit/s receiver using semiconductor optical amplifier and discuss the advantage over the avalanche photodiode receiver. Measured minimum sensitivity was -21.3 dBm, which is the highest ever reported without fiber amplifiers.
