  • Abstract
The power demand for microprocessors increases steadily; DC/DC converters are required to have high current capability and lower operating voltage. This paper describes a novel converter topology named "current flip flop converter" (CFFC), that is suitable for low output voltage and high output current. CFFC is based on the forward converter, but the output inductor and the flywheel diode are placed on the primary circuit. This makes the current through the inductor and the flywheel diode of CFFC smaller than that of the forward converter. In addition, the number of parts on the secondary circuit is minimized. This is the reason why CFFC is suitable for high output current. The converter topology, operation, experimental results of the 150 W prototype converter is described. We obtained 83.7% efficiency of the prototype under the condition of DC48 V input and 1.5 V 100 A output.
