Abstract :
A new method for driving synchronous rectifiers in DC-DC switching converters is proposed. The driving voltage for the synchronous rectifier transistor is derived from both, forward and reset transformer primary voltage. The phenomenon of "a small relative change of the sum of the forward and reset transformer primary voltage" in clamped forward topologies is explained and used effectively. The performance of the proposed solution was simulated on computer and experimentally verified on several converter prototypes.
