Abstract :
Television in Japan will change largely by digitalization using satellite, cable, and terrestrial channel (ISDB: Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting), where high-definition television (HDTV) is the basic infrastructure. Large screen, higher picture quality than the conventional ones, and low power consumption features are required for displays for digital broadcasting. Plasma displays (PDPs) are the most promising displays from viewpoints of flatness, large screen and picture quality compared with other current displays at present. Some characteristics such as power consumption, cost, and pixel number are expected to be improved.
