Abstract
This paper presents a low noise lamp ballast with a 10 kHz control bandwidth for a xenon lamp. The ballast features a universal 90 to 250 Volt, 50 to 60 Hz input. Power is delivered to a 750-Watt xenon lamp with 80 db attenuation of line frequency harmonics. The ballast provides a 38 kV ignition pulse to strike the lamp with lamp current regulated by the control loop. Lamp current is adjustable manually or from an external analog signal from 30 to 50 Amps. The power circuitry and loop design to achieve these goals are presented here.
