Abstract :
We present a new foundation for the next generation Internet (NGI) multi-tier architecture for the Internet of Internets (MTAII). MTAII consists of two components, specific Internet protocol (SIP) and multi-tier Internet protocol (MTIP). SIP entirely isolates IPv4 on hosts from WAN infrastructures and delivers IPv4 traffic between hosts through WANs. MTIP provides a tree-like multi-tier multi-homed topology and is used to deliver SIP traffic. In this paper, we discuss the architecture and the advantages of MTAII as a promising NGI. These advantages include very smooth transition from the current Internet while keeping the basic principles of the Internet, no modification required in the application layer and even in infrastructure, no more address shortage problem, and scalable, flexible, robust and wellbalanced architecture on any WAN technologies.
