Abstract
Summary form only given. New results regarding optimization of various properties of periodic, quasi-periodic, and disordered (natural and artificial) dielectrical structures are presented. In particular, optimum transmission properties of dielectric mirrors as well as "superluminal" characteristics of the group velocity of light in coaxial cables are studied. Some other optimization problems related to modelling of anomalous dispersion and effective refractive index of artificial dielectrics are also mentioned.
