Abstract
In future, the integration of field devices can realized vendor-independent on the basis of field device tool (FDT) specification of the ZVEI and the PNO. Today, business and presentation logic of field devices are represented in electronic device descriptions (EDD). This paper demonstrates the basic concepts of FDT. Furthermore it is shown how the investment done in electronic device descriptions can be saved by applying device models and by re-using software components of existing commissioning tools.
