Abstract :
In this paper, a fault detection filter algorithm is developed for the health monitoring system of a simply supported beam. The filter is designed utilizing sensor arrays for two specific cases: 1) by using 14 piezoelectric sensors, the original algorithm for the filter design is adapted to the structural model and 2) by using 4 piezoelectric sensors, a modification of the original algorithm is presented. To our knowledge, although the filter has been employed to detect sensor and actuator faults, it has never been utilized for detecting and localize structural faults.
