Abstract
A model for flow processes transported over media characterized by time-varying time delays is presented. The model expresses the flow arrival rate as a function of the flow departure rate and the transport time delay. In addition to the cases studied in the literature, the case of time delay gradients having absolute values larger than 1 is considered. Such time delay variations could be reflecting certain dynamics in the transport medium too complex to model. The utility of the model is demonstrated through simulations and its validity is verified by comparing the cumulative arrival flow predicted by the model with end-to-end delay measurements from a single packet flow.
