Abstract
Permanent magnet (PM) stepping motor drives are widely used due to their simple structure and high power density. However, the cogging torque is a common problem to be solved in surface-mounted permanent magnet motor. This paper introduces a new technique to reduce the cogging torque and presents a comparative analysis for the effect of different structure supplying mode on the electromagnetic torque of the PM stepping motor. The calculation results show that the new stator structure is very effective for reducing cogging torque of the surface-mounted PM stepping motor.
