Abstract :
This paper presents a nonlinear modeling of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive using a circuit-coupled 2D finite element method (FEM). An inductance is introduced to account for the 3D end effects on phase inductance, due to the end windings and axial fringing field. The simulation results for different turn-on and turn-off angles, with and without pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage control, are given for various load conditions at different speeds. The calculated performances are compared with test results to validate the modeling.
