Abstract :
Estimating the position of mobile terminals is a key problem in many wireless applications. The paper proposes a novel mobile-terminal positioning approach using a single array antenna in multipath environments. We estimate the location of a terminal by combining experimental results using an array antenna and ray-tracing analysis results with highly accurate, three-dimensional terrain data. In particular, we focus on the directions of arrival (DOAs) and angular spreads (ASs) of the received signals in the analysis and accurately estimate the location of the terminal by comparing the DOAs and ASs of the received signals obtained experimentally with those obtained by the ray-tracing analysis. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method through actual experimental data.
